HERNIA PROCEDURES

If you are experiencing a lump or pain in your groins, your umbilicus, anywhere on your abdominal wall, or experiencing reflux, you may require a hernia surgery.

Some of the procedures that can be performed are:

Inguinal (groin) Hernia Surgery
Umbilical Hernia Repair
Hiatal Hernia Repair
Ventral/Incisional Hernia Repair

An Inguinal Hernia Surgery is a surgical procedure, where a hernia is repaired.

This surgical procedure is recommended for patients who are experiencing discomfort in their inguinal hernias, or whose hernias are strangulated. Surgery is especially recommended for children with this condition.

To treat this condition, a laparoscopic surgery or open surgery could be performed.

An Umbilical Hernia Repair is a surgical procedure, where an Umbilical Hernia is repaired.

This surgical procedure is recommended for patients who experience pain below their belly button, where an Umbilical Hernia is located. In children, surgery is not usually required, as it naturally heals when the child reaches 3 or 4 years old. In adults, this surgery is suggested to prevent a hernia from being incarcerated or strangulated.

To treat this condition, a surgeon makes an incision below the belly button to find your Umbilical Hernia. After it has been located, the surgeon pushes carefully the surrounding organs back towards the abdomen. Any opening or weak spot caused by this hernia will be repaired.

A Hiatal Hernia Repair is a surgical procedure, where a Hiatal Hernia is repaired.

This surgical procedure is recommended for patients who experience acid reflux, or who present a Hiatal Hernia, caused by pressure in the abdomen.

To treat this condition, a laparoscopic surgery or open surgery is suggested. The surgeon narrows the patient's diaphragm opening, preventing reflux, and wraps the upper section of the stomach around the end of the esophagus.

A ventral hernia is a bulge through an opening in the muscles on the abdomen. The hernia can occur at a past incision site (incisional), above the navel (epigastric), or other weak muscles sites (primary abdominal).

To treat this, a technique called laparoscopic ventral hernia repair is used to fix tears or openings in the abdominal wall using small incisions, laparoscopes (small telescopes inserted into the abdomen) and a patch (screen or mesh) to reinforce the abdominal wall. It may offer a quicker return to work and normal activities with decreased pain for some patients.
